WINE ENTHUSIAST
Mai, 2014
Quinta do Cume Reserva Branco
Punkte / 90
This wine is currently a deep daffodil color. Yellow plums, yellow apples, orange peels, toasted hazelnuts, vanilla bean and cinnamon cover the nose. The palate is round, bordering on lush, but the alcohol is decidedly medium. However, there’s clear tannin on the sides of the palate that, along with medium-plus acidity, frames the wine. The well-concentrated fruit leads to a medium-plus finish. This is a nice substitute for an oaked Chardonnay. Drink through 2014; this wine will benefit from aeration.
Quinta do Cume Douro Selection Tinto

This wine is a blockbuster! It’s inky in color and massively aromatic. The nose is packed with licorice, cola, loganberry, sloe jam and blackberry coulis. The palate goes further with tar, Dominican cigar and old leather. There’s an impressive density of pure fruit coupled with a seamless palate feel. The full body’s higher alcohol is fairly well integrated but sticks out just a touch on the finish. Drinks well now through 2018.

Sultry in appearance with a deep boysenberry, near-impenetrable color, the nose is sexy with a boisterous combination of highly ripe and youthful fruit and new oak nuance. The palate is generously juicy with blueberry, boysenberry and blackberry coulis. There’s a meaty note to the finish and there’s lots of graphite, too. The wine is full bodied and well measured in alcohol. The finish shows some thyme and rosemary notes. Will benefit from decanting; drink now through 2017.
